Warning over reports of phone scam in the Daventry District
Residents please be on your guard following reports of a scam caller falsely claiming to represent Daventry District Council.
The Council was recently alerted by a resident who had received a phone call from a person claiming to be representing the ‘Daventry District Council Administration Department’.
Daventry District Council has no such department it is fictitious.
The caller claimed that the resident was owed thousands of pounds in tax rebates due to a rebanding of his property and they required an upfront ‘administration fee’ of £75.
The hoaxer, who phoned from an 0844 number, does not represent the Council.
Anyone who receives such a call should under no circumstances give out personal or financial information to the caller.
Phone calls from Daventry District Council will be displayed as 01327 871100.
It follows a similar scam in May this year when residents reported receiving a phone call from a man on a withheld number, who claimed to be from DDC and calling about the NHS.
If you are unsure about a caller claiming to be from DDC, please contact the Council to verify the identity of a Council Official by phoning the main number on 01327 871100.
